Aragon at Wakefield with Razors team

If you were there, it was a great night. Alpine brought the Razors team to Wakefield for an incredible evening of skating. Our good friend Jon Thorpe took some pics of Aragon killing it and tagged us in them. Have to say, these are pretty sick shots. Thanks to everyone who came out! More pics soon.

2nd Annual Wakefield Skateboard Comp Summary

It was a great day for a comp. Along with Convoy skateboards, we put on the 2nd annual skateboard comp at wakefield skatepark. Comps are all about having fun and showcasing all the local talent. All in all we had a great turnout and some sick skating went down. Some new up and comers also showed up and really dropped some hammers.
The format was Jam sessions. Small groups were given 8 minutes to do there best stuff. Consistency,style, and difficulty of tricks determined who advanced to the final jam session. From there the winners were chosen.

3 new wheels dropped today from our friends at rat-tail distribution. The Chris Farmer 57/92-the Alex Broskow 56/89, and the anti rocker wheel at 46 mm. Start this spring with some fresh new wheels on your skates. Next weekend is our annual Spring Comp at Wakefield. See above post!

Skate Comp Re-cap

First off, I would like to thank everyone who came out to this great event and made it one to remember. There were so many skaters that came out and had a great time. It was a cool night as the skating was simply amazing. It was good to see so many new faces coming all the way from Philly and Roanoke! Half the fun of the comp the warm up session and just being able to hang out with everyone. It was a night where everyone cheered each other on and some serious hammers were being thrown. Coming out of the woodwork to win the intermediate division was Shawn Martin, driving all the way down from Philly. Coming in second was park local Drew Blankenship.

Thanks again for putting up with my voice coming through loud and clear on the speakers. It's hard trying to scream out wrong trick names while messing up the contestants name as well. You try doing it sometime. Alley oop and true still puzzle me as I cannot think fast enough as to which is which.

As the lights went down, the skating only got better. The advanced division was broken up into 3 11 minute heats. The top 3 from each group were given a chance to skate in the finals which was a 9 person jam session that went on fro 10 minutes. I really believe this format works well. The split up of the 3 groups gave everyone a little more breathing room and allowed for everyone to be able to watch.

Coming in first was the amazing Brian Arnold. He is coming off a win from the last DC street comp. 2nd place went to Bear, who recovered nicely from his broken leg this summer. And 3rd place went to Jeff Phong.

Good times and great skating. Thanks again for everyone who came out and supported inline skating!

Wakefield Skate Comp

Wakefield's First skateboard comp in almost 2 years went off great. A big thanks must first of all go out to CONVOY Skateboards for showing up-donating prizes and helping out with the judging. The skating was great and everyone had a great time.

The Intermediate group was large with 20 kids participating. It was a tight race, but when it came down to it, there was a clear winner.

The Advanced division was skating strong. After 2 90 second runs each a jam session was scheduled, but with a storm approaching, it was an all out pull the best trick with everyone on the course.

Thanks to everyone who came out Wakefield skate park this past weekend. It was a great time, and a good way to kick off the inline season. As you may have heard, this is the first comp in a series of comps with a points winner being declared in August. Points will be posted on rolldc.com at the end of this week.

Thanks to the intermediates as they are the future of the sport. There was good energy from the crowd, and it's good to see everyone rooting these guys on.

The advanced division was not done as I would have liked due to the crazy threat of rain. But it held out and everyone still had a good time. Comps are all about consistency. The winner on Saturday was wicked consistent. He rolled the whole park and came away almost landing everything he threw. Here's the results:

Best trick went to Chris "Herb" Burns for his disaster on the box, with an honorable mention going to Tim Phang for his soul on the floor to 180 into the quarter. Most blood award going to "Herb" again, as he had blood everywhere on his body. Most Boastful award is going Brian Arnold, as he said at one point he could "Crush a Kodiak Bear".
